So, this guy is a mobile phone salesman in England, and enters their version of American Idol to sing, wait for it... opera.

This guy is good. But the show definitely spun this the best they could. What they didn't mention is that he took private lessons in a school at Italy. While he was at the school he even won a contest and got to perform for Luciano Pavarotti.
The thing is, he paid for the school himself and was never paid to do a performance, thus he was still considered an amateur, not a professional.
He even has an album out now.
