Well this is the week. I don't have much to say on the topic, just adding to the 360 blogging noise.
You can check BestBuy inventories here. 200 premium 360's for launch at the bellevue store. I predict that there will be more than that number who leave the store disappointed after they sell out Tuesday morning.
It's after midnight, any of you have your 360s yet?
Paul, November 22, 2005 01:46 AM:Are there any (fun) games for 360 yet?
John, November 22, 2005 02:45 AM:Yes you can buy the original Joust! Now what's your excuse?
Wheelson, November 22, 2005 01:55 PM:I saw a HD CRT 26" Wide screen TV at costco last night for $449. The picture on it was sweet. I thought it was pretty amazing that a new HDTV would be only $50 more than an XBox 360.
I don't know about sweet games for the 360, but I read that in Battlefront II you can't hunt Gungans for sport. Oh yea!
Wheelson, November 24, 2005 07:53 AM:Um...of course I mean you CAN hunt Gungans for sport. Being happy about NOT having the chance to hunt Gungans for sport is a jailable offence.
A friend of mine at Microsoft was presented with a fully loaded XBox 360 as a project bonus. Last I heard from him was, "Can't talk...Xbox."
John, November 30, 2005 12:20 AM:Update: The 360 has been out 1 week and I still don't have one - how lame is that? I did notice that Fred Meyer has a pile of 360 games and accessories, which of course are useless if there are no consoles for sell.
In the mean time, Captain Sniffy has a free Xbox 360 laser engraved with his gamertag and icon. No justice, no justice at all.
J, November 30, 2005 09:45 AM:We need a photo of that Xbox!
Paul, November 30, 2005 10:52 AM:I, too, am still 360-less. But I reiterate: are there any fun games out for it? I saw perfect dark, it brings nothing.
John, November 30, 2005 03:30 PM:There is no answer for that question. For me personally I won't really know if a game is fun until I play it. Hard to define what a game has to 'bring' in order to be fun. I think I'll take a gamble however and say that at least some of the 360 games out now or soon to be out will be fun.
J, December 1, 2005 07:08 PM:Check out this sweet skin for the 360. It's actually a Newton's method fractal, which makes it even cooler.
Sniffy, December 5, 2005 12:02 PM:Having had the XBox 360 for a week now, I've only played PGR3, and a host of the arcade games. I'd definitely have to say that the 360 is a very cool machine as a "media amplifier", but the XBox Live experience is completely at a new level. That's what the 360 has to offer above all.
One of the coolest things for me: My wife is a gamer now! She loves the arcade games. That to me is the biggest win.
FredB, December 6, 2005 10:19 AM:I totally agree. When I got my wife hooked on Myst we had a blast together. I had to buy the Myst 2000 edition which I think used the Unreal engine to provide a walkable environment. It was the only way she could visualize the environment. The standard postcard view was too confusing.
Johnn, December 12, 2005 05:21 PM:Arrrrrg! 360's still sitting on the shelves in Japan?
Japanese Xbox 360 sales off to slow start. Re-image those dogs the US load and ship em back!
Paul, December 12, 2005 06:42 PM:Yeah, as if you're going to play it: (1) you have no time, and (2) there aren't any games for 360.
Whatever happened to Thursday night mayhem?
J, December 13, 2005 10:06 AM:I think our game master plays games all day at work and has grown weary of playing games at home with lamers like us. :-)
John, December 13, 2005 10:15 AM:Yes lamers. He can only 'let' us win for so long before becoming bored.
Paul, December 13, 2005 11:21 AM:Well, let's just setup a time this week and do some mayhem... I think Wednesday works better for J, right?
Sniffy, December 13, 2005 01:45 PM:Hmm, actually, it's the games I've become bored with. I'm itching for the next fun thing. Nothing on the 360 has proven to be exceedingly fun, though I am enjoying Bejeweled and old-school Joust. For me, nothing tops the XBox triumvirate of Midtown Madness, Crimson Skies and Counter-Strike. Mech Assault 1 deserves an honorable mention.
Halo 2? Meh. Battlefront? How many more Ewoks do I have to kill again? Ghost Recon 2? It was good for a while, but the interest wanes.
The other games are FUN to play on-line, and each has something original about it. Until the next groundbreaker comes out on the 360, I'll be sticking to XBox 1 for my online gaming fix.
John, January 24, 2006 11:21 AM:Santa finally found my house. 2 months after release, but I am finally 360 enabled. What was the first online game I played?? Joust, with Captain Sniffy. Go figure.
Well, at least it wasn't Bejeweled.
Where did you find it?
John, January 24, 2006 01:48 PM:I gave up on trying to get up early every day and check the stores on my way to work. I just ordered up the Dell gamer bundle. They got it to me pretty quick.
J, January 24, 2006 02:53 PM:Beat Sniffy to a review.
Paul, January 24, 2006 05:20 PM:I think they're too busy playing "Barbie's eXtreme Online 360 Mall Trip" to write reviews.
John, January 24, 2006 07:32 PM:Can't talk now... Gotta find a purse to match my pumps...
John, January 25, 2006 09:18 AM:No end in sight to the current 360 shortage?
Paul, February 21, 2006 03:05 PM:Still can't find any 360s. Is there a place online where I can get a system that is not a bundle?
Sniffy, February 21, 2006 05:33 PM:Lots of folks have been having success with this online alerter: http://untitlednet.com/.
J, March 26, 2006 04:31 PM:360 fanboys check this. Apparently you can play divx and xvid on the 360 now. Review?
Paul, April 7, 2006 12:42 AM: George, April 7, 2006 01:41 PM:If Lucent wants all the 360's pulled from the shelf maybe they can post the list of where you can actually buy a 360.
Paul, April 7, 2006 05:10 PM:Judging by Xbox availability, Lucent has already won. It's been like 6 months now. WTF MS? Get it together already!
Paul, April 7, 2006 07:40 PM:I take it back. I stopped at GameStop just 30 minutes ago and they were in stock, so I of course bought a premium one (plus Kameo and Oblivion). See, I just had to whine long enough...
J, April 9, 2006 11:07 PM:So, what are your thoughts on the 360? Death of PC gaming? LOL.
Paul, April 14, 2006 12:08 AM:RTS or FPS = PC
Everything else = Xbox
In other news, availability should be getting better.
Paul, May 2, 2006 12:40 PM: J, December 7, 2007 10:22 PM:So, two years later and thanks to Sniffy, I join the ranks with an Elite. Mini-review to follow.
John, December 8, 2007 08:55 PM:Just in time for Xbox 3.
