daily dose of imagery - Reviews
Posted by J on February 15, 2005 10:47 AM PST

daily dose of imageryWe've been a bit slow in posting lately... but several good articles are forthcoming. For now, head over to daily dose of imagery. This guy takes pictures mostly around Toronto and posts one daily.

He seems to be able to capture interesting scenes in daily life, and gets me to think a bit more about the "little things" around me. I also like this site because the photography seems attainable, and something we could do with a little practice (and a digital SLR camera).

Update
I came across this photoblog while browsing the 2005 Bloggies awards. Of all the sites and all the categories, this was the one I liked the best. Take a look, you may find a new blog or two you'd like to follow.

Update 2
I should also shout out to the yo-yodyne photoblog. It is in the same style as daily dose of imagery, only updated less frequently by the creator of metrotronic.

I was thinking about doing something like this in San Francisco: taking a photo everyday and posting it, but Nullstream doesn't really fit that vibe, eh?

It would be more interesting than looking at pictures of MS Messenger for an entire week.

Wow, this dude's photoblog makes me nostalgic. We used to live about 300 feet from where this guy lives, so all of the pics are familiar to me. Toronto is quite often a beautiful, wonderful city. But as the smog pictures indicate, at times it can also be hell on the lungs.

Sniffy, I thought you would like it. Toronto looks like a cool city.

Paul - definitely start taking pictures. We can work them in!

GW - at least my posts HAVE pictures in them! And BTW, those messenger photos took me some time to do. :-)

All's I gots is a lil' digital elph s110 (2.1 mega pixels). The daily dose dude has one of these dogs... 8.3 mega pixels! That means his pictures are 4 times cooler.

I have the same s110 - it took all the Thailand shots and is pretty good when the sizes are reduced and a little postprocessing is done.

The main problem with compact digitals is the lenses, the zoom and the lack of an aperature adjustment. I agree that to get all the subtle lighting, you'd need a better camera.

The digital rebel was on sale at the beginning of the year with 2 additional lenses for around $800. That's actually really good, considering the quality of images it takes. It does kind of put it into the "hobby", rather than novelty category though.

Man I'm glad someone posted something. I've got a few entries in the works but I've been working crazy again.
I know the idea of a cool Digital SLR is appealing, but I think you are more likely to get the 'round town' shots if you have a small camera you carry with you. That's why I think camera phones and moblogs are so popular.

J, February 16, 2005 10:26 PM:

I agree that the pocket cams are a much more likely way to catch some shots, but they just can't compete quality wise, and digital SLR is the next step.

Cameraphones just plain suck. This can't be called photography - "photodocumentation" maybe.

BTW, looks like details on an upgraded digital rebel camera leaked: http://www.pma-show.com/review/canon/001_EOS_digital_rebel_xt.html

You are correct. I really love my little Pentax S4 (altoid) camera, but there is no way the pics it takes compare to the shots that guy is taking.

The image in this post is no longer showing up for me in Firefox. Anyone else see that? If you type the direct URL into IE, it works, but the direct URL in Firefox doesn't. Firefox gives a strange error that is different from an actual 404 Not Found. Strange-o.

Seems to work for me.
