Vista SP1 Released

March 18, 2008 11:26 AM PST

Vista SP1 has finally been released.
Fire up Windows update or download direct.
You can now feel free to switch over to Vista en mass. After using it for a couple months now, even Paul says it doesn't suck as bad as he thought it did.

Well I updated by x64 Vista install last night. I had to accept all the updates it was already offering before Windows update would even give me the option of downloading sp1. So far so good. I didn't notice any difference, but since I didn't have any real complaints to start with, why would I? I do feel better now that SP1 is out, good enough that I'm going to install it on my laptop soon. This feeling is not based on any 'insider' information, or factual data, just historical experience with the 'first' version of any major software upgrade.

I've been running Vista on a T60p ThinkPad since October, and it's okay. There are problems waking up from sleep and Vista's general disk thrashing, though, but I hear that the SP1 team did some work on disk copying.
