In a galaxy far, far away...

May 25, 1977: Star Wars was released. I was 6.6 years old.

How many Star Wars figures did you have? I had more than my parents wanted, including a sweet Boba Fett figure that I had to send away for with "proof of purchases" cut from other figure packaging. Unfortunately, they discontinued the Fett figure that had a backpack that actually shot a rocket before I ordered mine. "You'll shoot your eye out!"

Back in the day, I was an uber nerd. My wife has since tried to mold me into less of a nerd, but she's been largely unsuccessful. Anyway, the one and only day I ever cut class in my lifetime was for opening day. I was almost 15 at the time: a minor niner. It was scary cutting class, and my fellow uber nerd, Ivar and I went to a theater way on the other side of town so "the man" would have less of a chance of catching us.

It was totally worth it. That day was my official rite of passage into geekdom. I came out of the theater proudly declaring: "Today, I am a nerd!"
