Is $826 a lot of money?

According to Google:

UK 425 = 826.03 U.S. dollars (as of this posting)

And according to this article, 425 is how much the PS3 is going to cost in the UK when it is launched this week. Don't forget that Sony has also yanked the hardware PS2 backwards compatibility chip from this version so you are actually getting even less for those hard earned pounds.

Taxes in Britain are generally higher than here, so people have less disposable income to start with. Whoever is in charge of Sony's PS3 strategy has been smoking some pretty strong crack.

Well, you can't really ever do that conversion though. Everything is always double the price in GB. Games were 50 pounds, cds were 12 pounds, ipod is like 249 pounds. So basically they're always charging too much over there.

Yes but you can compare the PS3 price to other things in GB to get an idea if it is over priced or not:

360 Premium (279)
Nintendo Wii (179)
Silver PS2 (99.99)
Nintendo DS Lite (99.99)
iPod Nano (99)

People in the UK are getting screwed on software pricing:

Adobe CS Master Collection is $2499 US, and UK 2314.

Windows Vista Ultimate in the UK is more than double the US price. Ouch.
